Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced MICU RN with critical care skills including ventilator management and vasopressor titration for a 13-week acute care hospital assignment in Illinois.
Details
- MICU unit within an acute care hospital setting with 20 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 RN to 2 patients
- Common diagnoses include Sepsis, ARDS, Pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, and overdose
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday for day shift)
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Floating required, with travelers floating first; float assignments may include stepdown (3 patients) or general med (4 patients)
- 1 PCT to 10 patients on the unit
- Charge RN available each shift and takes an assignment as staffing allows
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Intensivist coverage in-house 0700-1900 with telemedicine intensivist support overnight
- Telemetry monitored on unit using Philips monitors, with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- EPIC EMR used for charting
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required (or active application process initiated)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Ability to interpret EKG strips
- Experience with arterial lines and central lines
- Proficiency in ventilated patient care
- Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors and other vasoactive and cardioactive medications
- Must be able to pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus
Additional Information
- Responsible for titrating a wide variety of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per physician-driven parameters
- Responsible for troubleshooting RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow devices
- Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours learning EPIC, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor
- No specific scrub color required, though sweatshirts are not permitted and scrubs are not provided
- Holiday coverage is dependent on staffing needs at the time
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
