Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Neuro position requiring 1+ years of strong Med/Surg and Neuro experience and an active or pending MN RN license.

Details

• Work in the Medical Surgical - Neuro unit of an acute care teaching hospital with a Level 2 Trauma Center designation
• Unit cares for a mix of Med/Surg, Neuro, and Trauma patients, with approximately 60-70% being neuro patients
• Trauma patients are received from the ICU after initial stabilization
• Rotating 3x12 shifts, days (0700-1930) and nights (1900-0730)
• Patient ratios are 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• No floating outside of scope, though floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital may be required
• Charting is done in Epic (Excellian)

Requirements

• Active or pending MN RN license accepted
• Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience required, with strong Med/Surg and Neuro experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills needed include respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oxygen administration, tracheostomy care), IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, neurological care (CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, TBI, substance withdrawal), feeding tube management, and medication administration (Heparin, insulin, PCA)
• Wound care/wound vac and central line blood draw experience preferred
• Must be able to comply with Minnesota state fingerprinting requirements, which may require travel to a LiveScan location if not near one
• Minimum of 1 supervisor reference required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a combined Med/Surg, Neuro, and Trauma patient population
• Navy scrubs required
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from the facility, with no local candidates accepted for this specialty
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Previous perm staff or per diem employees must have been separated from the facility for at least 3 months prior to starting a travel assignment
• RTO requests are ideally limited to no more than 5 days
• Pre-start modules are required prior to beginning the assignment
• This facility does not provide references to travelers post-assignment or to those who previously worked there as perm staff
