Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Oncology Chemo Certified position in a multispecialty outpatient clinic, requiring chemo certification and prior telephone triage experience.

Details

  • Outpatient multispecialty clinic setting within a Level I Trauma Center academic medical center
  • Cares for Breast Oncology, Breast Surgery, and Plastic Surgery patients
  • Day shift schedule, 4x10 hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Duties include telephone triage, in-basket management, and assisting providers during clinic visits
  • Provides pre-op/post-op teaching and chemo teaching for new and returning patients
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Royal blue scrub color required

Requirements

  • Active CT or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with consideration for 1.5 years if candidate has Level I trauma or travel experience
  • Prior outpatient clinic and telephone triage experience required
  • Travel nursing experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with IV therapy, port access/management, and starting/maintaining IVs required
  • Experience managing chemotherapy side effects, oncologic emergencies, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy required
  • Skilled in patient/family education, symptom management, and recognizing abnormal lab values
  • Experience caring for breast cancer patients required
  • 1 professional reference required

Additional Information

  • Provides direct patient care and support for oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy and related treatments
  • Assists providers during new and return patient visits, including pre-op and post-op education
  • Manages symptom control for nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane changes
  • Recognizes and responds to oncologic emergencies such as anaphylaxis
  • Located within a large academic Level I Trauma Center with 1,500+ staffed beds
  • Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
  • COVID vaccine and booster required unless religious or medical exemption applies
  • Local candidates not accepted; must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
  • Former staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 2 years to return as a travel nurse
  • Facility can auto-approve up to 7 days of requested time off
  • Candidates should communicate any vacation plans between sign date and start date to ensure realistic scheduling
  • First-time travelers are not preferred due to required travel experience
