Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of PICU experience and comfort floating to NICU and other pediatric units.
Details
- Float pool position covering various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
- Teaching hospital setting
- Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- 36 or 48 hours per week
- 13-week assignment length
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
- Typical patient ratio of 1:2
- Uses Epic EMR
- Must float within scope of practice as needed per facility float policy
Requirements
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact) required, pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start date
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS required
- Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Comfort with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED required
- Peds PACU experience highly preferred
- Previous NICU/PICU float pool experience preferred for candidates without prior travel experience
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- BSN preferred
- APHON, CPHON, and OCN certifications preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across multiple specialty units on a rotating float basis
- Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
- Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
- No RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
- Any planned time off between sign date and start date must be disclosed to ensure an appropriate start date
- Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have at least 1 year of separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have previous NICU/PICU float pool experience
- No radius rule for this position
