Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN with 2+ years of NICU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license for a 13-week travel assignment.
Details
- Work in the NICU/Pediatric Med-Surg unit of a pediatric hospital
- Patient population includes premature infants and cases involving AOP, ROP, BLD/CLD, cardiac defects, feeding issues, NAS, and iatrogenic NAS
- Tracheostomy experience required
- Patient ratio of 1:3-4
- Meditech charting system experience preferred
- Rotating day/night shifts on a 3x12 schedule (7:00 AM-7:30 PM / 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within the specialty
- No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required
- BLS certification required (AHA only)
- CPI certification typically required, Calm Every Storm online version accepted
- NRP or AAP certification accepted
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
- Tracheostomy care and management experience required
- Ventilator management experience required
- Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, TPN/lipids, and pediatric dosage calculations
- Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP management and oxygen delivery systems
- Experience with neurologic conditions including seizure disorders and anti-seizure medications
- Experience with cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation and management preferred
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), NG tube insertion/management, and wound assessment
- Utilize infection prevention practices including isolation precautions and PPE
- Assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures
- Manage administration of blood and blood products and emergency medications
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Travelers are given priority for floating within scope with no restrictions
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must live 50+ miles from the facility to be considered for travel pay unless otherwise specified
- Returning staff must have a 12-month break before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers typically must have a 6-month break from the health system before starting a new assignment
