Description
American Traveler is hiring a PCU Registered Nurse for a surgical oncology unit requiring at least 1 year of PCU experience and 2 years of total acute care experience.
Details
- 12-hour night shift rotation (7:00 PM-7:30 AM), 3x12 schedule
- Mixed acuity surgical oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases
- Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, may be up to 1:5
- Variable weekend scheduling based on unit needs
- No set or blocked scheduling offered
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; travelers may be scheduled for days, nights, or a rotating combination
- Float requirement within scope of practice
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required and must be in hand at time of submission
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Preferred certification: ONS Chemo
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience
- Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Skilled in respiratory care, with BiPAP/CPAP management preferred
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
- Tracheostomy care and management skills required
- Experience with cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management
- Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager or director-level leader; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care for complex surgical oncology patients, including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
- Administer and monitor insulin and heparin drips
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Complete urgent Ohio fingerprinting process immediately upon contract signing
- First-time travelers are welcome; candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
- Former employees eligible for travel assignments after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel positions at this facility
- Requested time off must be submitted and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
