Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Acute Telemetry unit position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring an AZ or compact RN license and 2 years of telemetry experience.

Details

  • Work in the Surgical Acute Telemetry unit (Trauma, Ortho, Surgical) of a Level 1 Trauma hospital
  • 30-bed unit caring for post-op transplant, Whipple, spine, ortho joint, and trauma patients
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:4-5
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Charge RN available and does not take a patient assignment
  • Nurse aide support provided on days and nights
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Weekend requirement of 3 shifts per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage worked into rotation with permanent staff
  • SWAT RN available for IV team support
  • Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
  • Uses Phillips telemetry monitoring and Bipap/CPAP ventilator equipment
  • Floating required, primarily to Med/Surg-Tele units and possibly to Westgate or AZ General Laveen campuses
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification (AHA) required
  • ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must pass a Day 1 orientation SIMs Lab skills exam covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Driver's license required for submission and used to verify permanent address
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to surgical, trauma, ortho, and post-transplant patients on a busy Level 1 Trauma unit
  • High volume of transplant and Whipple procedure patients
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for respirator fit testing
  • Travel team members must have their own vehicle
  • Failure of the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam on the second attempt results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento region facilities
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
