Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III NICU night shift position requiring CA licensure and 2+ years of recent NICU experience with Level III neonates.

Details

• Work in a Level III NICU with approximately 225 births per month and 35 bassinets
• Care for premature and critically ill neonates including cases of prematurity, rule out sepsis, respiratory distress, and occasional postoperative patients
• Nurse to patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:4 based on patient acuity
• 12-hour night shift schedule (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week
• Floating required, primarily to the Well-Baby Nursery, with the possibility of floating to 1-2 units in a 12-hour shift
• No charge nurse responsibilities required
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend commitment of 4 shifts per 4-week scheduling period
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 winter holidays and 2 of 3 summer holidays
• Uses EPIC for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Ventilator management (IMV and HFOV) handled by Respiratory Therapy, with RT support available 24/7
• Unit clerk support available on days and evenings
• Neonatologists on-site during daytime hours 7 days a week, on-call remainder of time with in-house Pediatric hospitalists available for immediate response

Requirements

• Active California RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2+ years of recent NICU experience required
• Must be comfortable caring for Level III neonates
• EPIC experience preferred
• HFOV experience preferred
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Additional Information

• Admit NICU patients as part of daily responsibilities; travel nurses are not expected to attend deliveries in Labor and Delivery
• Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level II trauma hospital
• 3-4 days of orientation provided
• Self-scheduling available after initial schedule placement, with travelers plugged in where needed most for the first schedule
• Dress code requires professional-colored scrubs (no denim), non-skid closed-toe shoes, minimal professional jewelry, and neatly groomed hair and facial hair
• Nail polish must be well-maintained without chips, cracks, gels, acrylics, or extensions
