Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring a Nebraska or compact RN license and 2+ years of ICU experience.
Details
- Work in an 18-bed Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital setting
- Level 1 trauma center serving adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
- Patient population includes trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
- Utilizes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, and ICP monitoring with real-time training available for those without prior experience
- Uses Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol and Belmont rapid transfuser
- RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
- Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
- RT equipment includes nasal cannula through ventilators, with RNs responsible for troubleshooting
- Draeger heart monitors used with centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
- Self-scheduling available, managed by the unit manager based on needs
- 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity and NICU
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
Requirements
- Active Nebraska or Compact (NLC) RN license required, must be active at time of consideration
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Level 1 trauma center or comparable critical care experience preferred
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to critically ill trauma and medical ICU patients
- Successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking, a positive attitude, and effective teamwork
- Navy blue scrubs required per unit dress code
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
- RNs complete a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation on skills learned, requiring a 90% passing score
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Unit interviews are conducted directly with the hiring manager
