Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring comfort working across all ICU and PCU units and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• ICU average patient ratio of 2:1 and PCU average ratio of 5:1
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating between units may occur 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state may be accepted pending compact eligibility
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
• Experience at a large Level I or Level II trauma facility required
• Epic charting experience required
• Proficiency in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation and maintenance
• Respiratory support skills including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medication administration, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Wound care experience with surgical wounds, drains, and wound vacs
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV insulin protocol experience for endocrine/metabolic patient care
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred

• Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
• Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
• Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
