Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/MS Float position requiring VA or Compact RN licensure and comfort floating between PCU and MS units.

Details

  • >Float role covering all Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) units
  • 13-week contract with night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 6:45p-7:15a)
  • PCU average ratio is 5:1 and MS average ratio is 6:1, with potential to flex up to 7:1
  • Floating occurs based on staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential for 2-3 floats per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required, unless pending licensure from a single-state non-compact state
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • CPI, NIHSS, and Trauma certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience with 1:5 patient ratio required
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Prior PCU experience required
  • Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required
  • Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings required
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
  • Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and titrating cardiac drips
  • Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, and administering IV insulin
  • Stable ventilator patient care experience preferred
  • Peripheral and PICC line management experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience required

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care across PCU and MS units, responding to rapid response and code team emergencies as needed
  • Work in a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
  • Facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are generally not accepted, though limited exceptions may apply for inpatient RN assignments
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment at this facility are not eligible to return, though case-by-case exceptions may be reviewed
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • All time-off requests must be submitted upfront with the application
