Description

American Traveler is hiring a Whole House Float RN comfortable working ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 2+ years ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12s, 6:45p-7:15a
  • Assignments up to 26 weeks available by request
  • ICU ratio averages 2:1, PCU averages 5:1, and MS averages 6:1 (may flex to 7:1)
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement is either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
  • Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact states accepted pending)
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
  • Experience with patient ratios of at least 1:5 required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with trach management and non-invasive airway support, including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilator management
  • Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred

  • Work as part of a Whole House Float team supporting ICU, PCU, and MS units based on real-time staffing needs
  • Provide comprehensive critical and progressive care across multiple specialty units
  • Located within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics
  • Magnet-designated facility affiliated with a medical school, offering advanced specialty care
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates may be accepted depending on radius rule criteria
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Effective July 1, 2025, travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case
