Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) treating acute leukemia and hematology patients, requiring 2 years of acute care experience and no chemo certification.
Details
- Work in the Acute Leukemia and Hematology PCU of a cancer hospital
- Primarily care for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
- Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but may be 1:5
- 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30)
- Shift assignments (days, nights, or combination) reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on department needs
- Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
- EPIC charting system required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months required
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patients
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
- Skilled in central line and peripheral line care/management
- Skilled in PICC line management
- Skilled in blood product administration
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with accessing/managing ports preferred
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
- Utilizes Rapid Response Teams as needed
- Feeding tube care and management responsibilities included
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- First-time travelers will be screened and considered for this position
- RTO must be requested and built into the contract prior to submission, limited to 7 days or less
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as travelers at this location
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing the contract

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
