Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pre-Admission Services position requiring OR RN licensure and prior surgical nursing experience with Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work in a Pre-Admission Services (PAS) department within a hospital/clinic setting
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative patient assessments and risk evaluations via telephone and in-person consultations
- Collaborate with PAS advanced practice providers, anesthesia team, surgeons, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Uses Epic EMR for documentation, InBasket message management, and order coordination
- Utilizes clinical equipment including EKG, vital sign monitors, glucometer, and scales
- Day shift schedule from 0800-1830, Wednesday through Saturday
- 3 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift
- Floating may be required, with agency nurses floated before core staff where qualified
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted Oregon and Washington RN licenses required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- CRASE training required (mandatory if assignment extends beyond 6 months)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience required
- Previous surgical nursing experience required
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program required, BSN preferred
- PALS certification preferred
- Specialty certification such as CPAN, CAPA, or CNOR preferred
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse patient population required
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and assist with patient transfers over 100 lbs using proper techniques or mechanical aids
- Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift
Additional Information
- Perform systematic reviews of patient medical history, medications, allergies, and prior surgical/anesthetic experiences to identify anesthesia and surgical risks
- Coordinate pre-operative testing, consultations, and medical clearances based on patient risk factors
- Provide telephone triage and respond to patient portal messages regarding pre-operative preparation
- Deliver individualized patient education on procedures, anesthesia options, medication management, NPO guidelines, and post-operative expectations
- Support patients and families with informed consent understanding and discharge planning
- Function as an integral member of the perioperative care team, participating in case discussions for high-risk patients
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV regulatory standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and identify workflow enhancement opportunities
- Work environment involves frequent exposure to infectious materials, requiring consistent PPE use
