Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med Surg/Peds unit requiring a ND or compact RN license, 2 years of experience, and BLS/PALS certifications.
Details
- >Acute care hospital setting on a Med Surg/Peds unit with 17 beds (14 inpatient, 3 observation)
- Primarily adult patients, with common diagnoses including UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, and COPD
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 2:15 ratio during days and 1 aide on nights
- Pediatrician not in-house but available on call for pediatric patients
- No ventilators on the unit; occasional BiPAP managed primarily by respiratory therapy
- ICU monitors telemetry and reads strips; unit nurses apply telemetry leads to patients
- 12-hour shifts on a 7a-7p schedule with day/night rotation and self-scheduling
- Weekend shifts required as needed; no holiday requirement
- Required to float first to ED/ICU for 1:1 patient assignments as needed
- Uses MEDITECH EMR
- Navy blue scrub color required

Requirements
- Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) for North Dakota required, pending licenses not accepted
- BLS and PALS certifications required and must be active, pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Adult Med Surg experience required
- MEDITECH EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a Med Surg/Peds unit primarily serving adult patients
- Apply telemetry leads to patients as needed, with strip reading handled by ICU monitor staff
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, with primary management by respiratory therapy
- Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift, or one day and one night shift if needed
- Success on this unit is supported by strong communication, motivation, approachability, and teamwork
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
