Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring GA or Compact RN license and at least 1 year of ICU experience, with first-time travelers welcome.
Details
- Hospital-based Critical Care Float pool position
- Adult to geriatric patient population
- Primary floating is to the ICU with potential to float to MS, MS/Tele, PCU, and ICU units
- Cares for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, Neuro ICU, and CVICU patient diagnoses
- Patient ratios of 1:2-3 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in MS/MS Tele
- Night shift schedule of 4x12 hours from 19:00-7:00
- Every other weekend required, averaging 6 weekends over a 13-week contract
- Floating required across multiple units
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic EMR (required), along with Pyxis and SBAR systems
- Navy blue scrubs required
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required at time of submission
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience required
- Experience with 1:2-3 patient ratios preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, central/PICC/arterial line management, and blood product administration
- Respiratory skills including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, and ABG interpretation preferred
- Neurological skills including CVA/stroke management, EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery care preferred
- Skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and IV insulin protocols
- Two supervisory references (Manager level or above) highly preferred; charge nurse references not accepted
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing support across multiple units as part of a float pool team
- Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, and all RTO must be finalized at time of submission with no changes after offer or during orientation week
- RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
- Holiday coverage required: must work all major holidays if one or two fall during the assignment, or two of three if three major holidays fall during the assignment
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
- Returning travelers or previous employees must be away from all facilities within the health system for one full year before reapplying as a traveler
- Shift and contract length are firm with no schedule change requests permitted
- Travel pairs will not be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
