Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Step Down/DOU night shift position requiring telemetry and CA licensure, with no first-time travelers accepted.

Details

• Work in the Step Down/DOU unit of a hospital environment
• Adult and geriatric patient population
• 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio with a daily census of 12 and 12 beds
• Unit systems include Cerner, Pyxis, and SBAR communication
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
• Required to work every other weekend
• Floating required within the service line, including infrequent floats to a facility approximately 15 minutes away
• One RTO request allowed and must be submitted with initial application
• Scrubs of any color are permitted

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and TNCC or TCAR (TNCC/TCAR may be pending prior to start)
• Preferred certifications: CPI or MAB
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• 1 year of charge nurse experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry settings required
• Skilled in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Experience managing feeding tubes
• Skilled in IV therapy including port access, central/peripheral line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
• Experience with heparin protocols and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration of cardiac drips required)
• Experience with PCA management
• Experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and TBI patient care
• Ortho trauma experience required
• Experience managing surgical drains
• Respiratory skills required including ventilator care, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy care
• COVID vaccination required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a Step Down/DOU unit for adult and geriatric patients requiring telemetry monitoring
• Manage a range of cardiac, respiratory, neurological, GI, and ortho trauma conditions
• Administer and monitor IV therapies, blood products, and insulin/heparin drips
• Coordinate with rapid response and code teams as needed for emergent patient needs
• Advance EKG exam and pass/fail testing may apply prior to placement
• May float to a nearby hospital approximately 15 minutes away, with advance notice provided and a paid orientation for the floating location
• Completion of required training modules, including a 1-hour CA Harassment course, is required
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Locals accepted at the same pay rate
