Description

American Traveler is hiring a Nuclear Medicine Technologist for a 13-week day shift assignment requiring ARRT (N)(R), NMTCB certification, and 1-2+ years of nuclear medicine experience.

Details

  • Hospital-based Nuclear Medicine department serving adult and geriatric patients
  • High scan load including nuclear stress tests (outpatient and inpatient), HIDA scans, VQ scans, biliary studies, lymph injections, and amyloid studies
  • Utilizes GE equipment including SPECT CT G850
  • 5x8 hour day shifts, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
  • Every other weekend required, inclusive of weekend on-call (either Saturday or Sunday, not both)
  • Weekday on-call coverage required twice per week (4:00 PM-10:00 PM)
  • Weekend on-call required every other week
  • Required to work holidays as scheduled
  • Float required within specialty, other units, and sister facilities within scope
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
  • Black scrubs required

Requirements

  • ARRT (N) and ARRT (R) certification required
  • NMTCB certification required
  • BLS certification required (AHA only)
  • State license required if applicable
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required; candidates with 1 year and strong experience may be considered
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Strong, independent skills and experience required
  • Proficiency in bone scans, whole body scans, myocardial studies, and 3-phase imaging required
  • Experience with SPECT imaging including bone, brain, liver, and renal studies required
  • Skilled in venous blood draws, IV starts and maintenance, and radioactive material handling/storage/disposal
  • Experience with renal flow, perfusion, and liver imaging studies required
  • Nuclear cardiology and thyroid studies experience preferred
  • Experience with adenosine infusion, Persantine infusion, and thallium stress testing preferred
  • Experience with I-123 uptake scans and cancer survey preferred

Additional Information

  • Perform a wide range of nuclear medicine imaging studies for adult and geriatric patients including cardiac, renal, liver, thyroid, and bone imaging
  • Conduct pharmacological and exercise stress testing protocols
  • Handle, store, and dispose of radioactive materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Follow isolation precautions and PPE guidelines
  • First-time travelers will be considered with strong experience
  • Local candidates under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless otherwise specified
  • Returning staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a travmore
  • Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system after completing an assignment
  • Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests exceeding 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract

The charge nurses and patient population is friendly.

Cons

They will short staff you every day. I got attitude multiple times when trying to take lunch 9 hours into my shift because ‘we don’t really do that here.’ Incredibly frustrating staffing levels, especially on the oncology floor.
