Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring an active NE or compact RN license and 2 years of recent ICU experience.

Details

  • Med Surg ICU unit within an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital with 34 beds
  • Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients over age 15
  • Common diagnoses include neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in Med Surg
  • RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Charge nurse present each shift and responds to RRTs and Codes
  • Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Uses Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips independently
  • Equipment used includes CVPs, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • 12-hour day and night shifts available (0630-1830 or 1830-0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday based on unit needs
  • Float requirement to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
  • 36 hours per week guaranteed
  • 13-week assignment length

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Must interview with unit leaders prior to placement
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing in a fast-paced tertiary hospital with fluctuating patient volumes
  • Collaborate with attendings, fellows, and residents in a team-oriented environment focused on high-quality care
  • Successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking, a positive attitude, and willingness to help others
  • Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • RNs must pass a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure results in contract termination
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
  • Up to 7 days of RTO must be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
