Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases, acute and chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and common med-surg co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med surg / telemetry units
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit equipped with vital sign monitors, glucose stat strips, cardiac telemetry monitoring, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP and Hemovac drains, and PCA pain management systems

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • Must pass Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) EKG competency exam as part of compliance
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Medical-Surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, central line management, insulin and heparin drip titration, wound care, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide med-surg and telemetry nursing care including IV insertion, wound care, post-op monitoring, and discharge planning with an emphasis on renal and fluid management
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist support
  • CNAs assist with vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, and transport, while a dedicated Transport Team handles patient transport
  • Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
  • Central Telemetry Unit monitors cardiac telemetry, and a dedicated PICC team supports IV access needs
  • Resource nurses and discharge nurses float to all units for additional support
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests are subject to manager approval
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus with paid deck options also available
  • Unit culture is described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius rule applies for local candidates, who receive the same rate as traveling candidates
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously in a permanent position there
