Description
American Traveler is seeking a PICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring an active AK RN license and at least 2 years of PICU experience.
Details
- Work in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at an acute care Magnet hospital
- Care for critically ill pediatric patients including ventilated cases
- PICU patient ratio of 1:2, with ventilated patients typically 1:1 due to unit layout
- Support staff includes CNAs and a med clerk; charge nurse typically does not carry patients
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within scope to NICU and Peds units as needed
- Unit accommodates block scheduling
- May occasionally be paired with a PICU-orientee for training purposes, though this is not the primary assignment
- Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required prior to start; compact license accepted at time of submittal for acute specialties
- Certifications required: BLS, PALS
- NRP certification copy required with submission for PICU, Peds, and RRT roles
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Experience with pediatric patient ratios of 1:4 preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level II experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills in ventilator management, central line care, IV therapy, and pediatric dosage calculations
- Experience with hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Cerner or Epic charting experience preferred
- Must be culturally sensitive to the Native population served
Additional Information
- Provide direct critical care nursing to pediatric patients, including those requiring ventilator support
- Complete onsite orientation modules (4-5 hours) via HealthStream, with annual renewal
- Navy scrub color required; L&D/OR scrubs provided by facility
- Local candidates not accepted; must reside at least 100 miles from the facility
- Previous staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
- COVID vaccination acknowledgment required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No changes to contract terms (RTO, start date, shift, etc) permitted once signed
- Free parking available near the facility

Anchorage is a unique city surrounded by 5,000-foot-high peaks in the south-central part of Alaska along the Cook Inlet, where abundant salmon and whales swim through.
