Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring an active AK RN license, BLS certification, and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Details
- Acute hospital setting on a Med/Surg Tele (MS/Tele) unit
- Unit utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient
- Bedside RN and CNA patient ratios are 1:6
- Surgical patient population includes colorectal, urological, gynecological, vascular, EENT, and wound cases
- Medical patient population includes cancer-related diagnoses, lung and heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and substance use disorder
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30
- Weekend coverage required, potentially more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to like units within scope required to meet facility needs
- Epic EMR system used for charting
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required, license pending applications accepted but must be in hand for auto offer
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant nursing experience required
- Patient ratio experience of 1:5-6 required
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response/Code teams, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, respiratory support including nasal cannula and oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting required

- Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska with 407 staffed beds
- Provide direct patient care within the Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model, collaborating with virtual RN and CNA support
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Parking is free
- Candidates must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront during the application process, as post-offer time off requests may not be accommodated
- Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities near the contracted location
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be considered for the travel position
- Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
