Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work on a Medical Surgical Telemetry unit consisting of 10 private rooms and 1 observation bed
• Unit provides telemetry monitoring for up to 4 patients with stable dysrhythmias
• Patient population includes adults and geriatric patients with conditions such as COVID, CVA, diabetes, renal disease, COPD, pneumonia, and cellulitis
• Surgical patient population includes orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and general surgical cases
• Excludes major neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgical procedures
• Patient ratio of 1:5-7
• Uses Pyxis medication system and SBAR communication
• Uses safe patient handling equipment and bladder scanners
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00-7:30
• Floating required to 2 other Med Surg units
• Weekend coverage required every 2nd to 3rd weekend

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Preferred previous Charge Nurse experience
• Meditech charting system experience preferred
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, peripheral and PICC line care
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy care and feeding tube management
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and blood product administration
• BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) experience preferred
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac), oxygen administration, and nasal cannula use

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical Telemetry unit including monitoring, medication administration, and wound care
• Utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as needed for patient emergencies
• Manage care for orthopedic patients including total joint replacements and peripheral nerve block catheters
• Navy blue scrubs required
