About
Anchorage is a unique city surrounded by 5,000-foot-high peaks in the south-central part of Alaska along the Cook Inlet, where abundant salmon and whales swim through. It's filled with cultural sites, including many museums and the Alaska Native Heritage Center, which offers stage performances and displays traditional crafts and replicas of dwellings from indigenous groups in the area. Top-notch eateries serving dishes with locally grown produce and fresh seafood abound, while the two roads running in and out of town lead to some of the world's most majestic wilderness areas. Outdoor activities are plentiful, including hiking and fishing within the city’s borders but only minutes from downtown is Chugach State Park, a 9,000-square-mile park with spectacular terrain for hiking, biking, ATV rides, kayaking, rafting and fishing.
