Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Neuro unit requiring direct External Ventricular Device (EVD) management experience and at least 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience.

Details

  • Work in a newly opened Neuro IMC Stepdown unit providing high-acuity, ICU-level care
  • Manages complex neuro patients including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, status epilepticus, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery cases
  • Performs specialized care including post-thrombolytic care, vasoactive medication management, and management of external ventricular devices and lumbar drains
  • Utilizes Stable Hamilton C1 Ventilators
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Variable weekend requirements
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within the Acute Care division, potentially to affiliate hospitals nearby
  • Charts using Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Standard or Compact); Oregon license pending applications accepted if submitted to the licensing board
  • Active OR (Operating Room) RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
  • Direct External Ventricular Device (EVD) management experience is required
  • Current certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA, traditional AHA only - RQI not accepted)
  • 6 hours of stroke continuing education required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required: titration of vasoactive drips and care of ventilated patients
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
  • COVID vaccination proof required with no exemptions accepted
  • Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required; charge RN references not accepted
  • Background check must show no prior hits under comprehensive lifetime background review

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity nursing care to complex neurological patients including stroke, seizure, and post-neurosurgical cases
  • Work in a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital that is a Level I Trauma Center
  • One week of orientation provided for this newly opened unit
  • Must complete required compliance modules prior to start (non-billable, averaging 4.5 hours for RNs)
  • Scrubs of any color accepted except prints, and are provided
  • Daily parking pass required at $16 for 8am-5pm, with public transportation encouraged
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restriction
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former OHSU employees or previous travelers must have a completed reference from their OHSU supervising manager
  • Returning staff must have a gap of at least 6 months before returning as a traveler
  • RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to a maximum of 2 weeks
  • Maximum RTO allowed is 5 days for a 13-week assignment or 7 days for an 18-week assignment, with additional time off requiring contract extension
  • Floating may occur within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
