Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Step Down unit position requiring 1:5 patient ratio SD/PCU experience, vent experience, and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Step Down unit of a hospital environment
  • Patient population primarily includes COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis and post-COVID patients
  • Care for trach, vent, BiPAP, and high-oxygen requirement patients with Respiratory Therapist support
  • Manage insulin drips, heparin, Cardizem and other sporadic drips
  • No orally intubated patients on the unit
  • Unit is trialing a team nursing model with two nurses and a PCT partnering to care for a group of patients
  • Targeted patient ratios are 1:4, but may be up to 1:5-6
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • 13-week assignment length
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Required to work every other weekend and holiday
  • Traveler will be first to float at facility discretion, including to specialty clusters or other Premier hospitals within 10-15 miles of main campus
  • May be fitted for N95 or PAPR prior to working on the HRRU unit

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience required
  • Required 1:5 patient ratio experience in Step Down or PCU setting (ICU experience does not qualify)
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting the assignment
  • Level 1 or 2 trauma experience preferred
  • Travel nursing experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • No candidates with past license disciplinary action will be accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a team nursing or primary nursing model depending on trial status
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Lab work and EKG/dysrhythmia exam must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
  • Maximum of 14 days RTO allowed per contract, must be requested at time of initial submission with no changes after offer
  • Local candidates are not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
  • Previous PERM/PRN staff or prior agency travelers not extended due to tenure must wait 6 months before reapplying and require facility rehire approval
  • Facility reserves the right to cancel up to 2-3 shifts due to low census per contract
  • Facility reserves the right to cancel the agreement with 2 weeks' notice
  • Travelers are not eligible for facility employee incentives
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though experienced travelers are preferred
