Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and telemetry skills, open to first-time travelers.

Details

• Work on a Medical Surgical unit with Rapid Response Team involvement
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture cases
• Unit includes an isolation area for COVID patients and provides multi-level care
• Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Accepts both 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules
• Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
• Floating required within or near the facility
• Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication administration, and SBAR for communication
• Assignment length of 13 weeks with potential extension up to 26 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required (hard requirement)
• Skilled in telemetry remote monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, and feeding tube management
• Proficient in pre/post hemodialysis management and blood product administration
• Skilled in central line blood draws, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs
• Knowledge of heparin and PCA medication administration
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac)
• Proficient in CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula use
• Skilled in non-invasive airway management and oral suctioning
• Experience with oxygen face masks and portable oxygen tanks
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
• Preferred: MS/Tele and on-unit telemetry monitoring experience
• Preferred: accessing ports, insulin management, and CVA experience
• Preferred: surgical drain management and ABG interpretation
• Preferred: tracheostomy management experience
• Preferred: Epic EMR experience
• Preferred: prior charge nurse experience
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg unit while utilizing Rapid Response Team protocols
• Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, with hospital orientation occurring during the first week and daily class attendance required
• Navy/white scrub color requirement
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, and must disclose hospital name and employment dates for facility approval
• Current travel per diem clinicians at this facility must choose between travel or per diem status, as they are not eligible for both
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
• No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units, have separate transportation, and disclose pairing status at submission
• Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed online prior to start and annually
