Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology night shift position requiring 3+ years of Med/Surg-Tele experience and MA licensure.

• >Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit
• Patient population includes general med surg patients as well as oncology patients receiving active treatment and palliative care
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:00)
• Every other weekend and every other holiday requirement
• May float to other inpatient units as needed
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active MA RN license required in hand
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Med Surg/Tele experience required
• Oncology experience preferred
• BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
• Must be able to interpret telemetry strips
• Epic EMR experience highly preferred
• Skills required include IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, PICC line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and recognizing/managing treatment side effects preferred
• Experience with pain management including IV push narcotics and medication tolerance assessment preferred
• Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols preferred
• Wound care and colostomy/ileostomy management experience preferred
• Foley catheter insertion and management experience preferred
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias required
• Two professional references required for consideration, with at least one from a Nurse Manager or higher

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a mix of general med surg and oncology patients, including active treatment and palliative care cases
• Administer medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids, and Neupogen
• Coordinate care and communicate abnormal lab values as part of the healthcare team
• Union facility with no special scheduling accommodations; must be able to work all 7 days of the week
• Required to complete a Pass/Fail telemetry test during orientation with an 80% passing score and only one attempt allowed
• Required to complete a Pass/Fail medication exam during orientation
• Additional pre-start and orientation modules required, with annual completion thereafter
• Local candidates accepted within a 200-mile radius at the same bill rate
• Returning staff must have a 12-month separation from the health system
• Up to 14 days of RTO may be submitted for review, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
• First-time travelers not specified as accepted or excluded
