Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Behavioral Health unit position requiring prior travel experience and Epic charting proficiency.
Details
- 12-bed specialized inpatient unit caring for adult patients with complex medical conditions, co-occurring behavioral health needs, and substance use disorders
- 1:6 patient ratios
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Epic EMR experience required
- Floating required within skillset
- May be required to work as charge nurse and to precept
Requirements
- Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
- BLS certification required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience
- Proficient in Med/Surg care with experience using Rapid Response/Code teams
- Skilled in peripheral line care/management, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration and tanks, and isolation precautions
- Epic charting experience required
Additional Information
- Provide integrated medical and behavioral health care as part of a multidisciplinary team including physicians, therapists, case managers, and addiction specialists
- Support patients experiencing substance withdrawal, behavioral challenges, and mental health concerns
- Focus on assessment, stabilization, treatment, medication management, behavioral support, and discharge planning
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Local candidates accepted, subject to radius rule criteria based on distance from facility
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
- Facility is a Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric), certified stroke center, and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
