Description
American Traveler is hiring a PACU/PreOp RN for a 13-week acute care surgery center assignment requiring 1 year of PACU experience and WA or compact RN licensure.
Details
- and PreOp RN role in an acute care surgery center
- Unit consists of PACU Phase 1 and Phase 2 with a total of 12 beds, typically staffed with 9-10 RNs during open hours
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 in Phase 1 and 1:3 in Phase 2
- Cases include ortho, ENT, septoplasty, TNA, fractures, sports medicine, shoulder/knee scopes, and spinal surgeries for both adult and pediatric patients
- Responsibilities include PACU discharge and patient education, stocking, room cleaning, crash cart checks, and general department duties
- PreOp duties include patient intake, vital signs, IV starts, OR prep, and post-operative calls
- EMR used is SIS
- Schedule is Monday through Friday with 10 or 12 hour shifts, potentially non-consecutive days based on contract needs
- No weeknight, weekend, holiday, or call requirements
- Floating not typically required, though PreOp experience may lead to occasional cross-utilization
- Scrubs are provided and street clothes are acceptable upon arrival
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of PACU experience required, similar setting preferred
- Pediatric patient care experience preferred
- Proficiency with IV starts for PreOp tasking and PACU IV restarts preferred
- General telemetry knowledge and ability to recognize lethal rhythms using 3-lead tele required
Additional Information
- Charge nurse role is filled by the manager during the day, who is hands-on and floats as needed
- CNAs support the unit with patient care, turning over bays, cleaning, stocking, and wheelchair transport, averaging 1-2 per day
- Rare use of LMA equipment as patients are typically extubated prior to PACU arrival
- ICU patients do not recover in this PACU
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- First-time travelers are welcome if able to quickly acclimate given the brief orientation period
