Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring active AZ or compact RN licensure and critical care experience.

- , CVICU, COVID ICU, MS ICU, and PCU units within the same Critical Care service line
- ,CVICU has 12 beds, COVID unit has 8 beds, MS ICU has 8 beds, and PCU has 16-20 beds with double occupancy
- ,Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity and staffing, and 1:3-4 in PCU
- ,Uses Cerner EMR
- ,Night shift schedule, 7pm-7am, with every other weekend required
- ,Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts per pay period
- ,Holiday coverage required for winter holidays, including one holiday and the eve of another
- ,Floating required to PCU, MST, and EC ICU/PCU as needed per staff rotation, with travelers floated first
- ,Low census call may occur approximately once every 6 weeks with no scheduled call
- ,Charge nurses may take patient assignments only as a last resort during high census or low staffing
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
- Acute care ICU experience required
- Strong EKG interpretation and ABG analysis skills required
- Experience titrating critical care drips such as pressors, sedatives, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants
- Ventilator weaning and troubleshooting skills required
- Experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT preferred
- Comfort working with EVD, chest tubes, arterial lines, and Swan-Ganz catheters preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years, each including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Care for a diverse critical care population including COVID (with manual proning), low-level neuro, DKA, sepsis, ARF, CRRT, rhabdomyolysis, post-MI, detox, and post-surgical cardiac patients
- Manage complex cardiac cases including STEMI, PCI, CEA, IABP, Impella, TAVR, VAD devices, and fresh open-heart surgery patients if experienced
- Utilize Glidescope during intubations and manage ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and Vapotherm equipment
- Monitor and interpret telemetry using Nihon Kohden monitors, as no dedicated tele techs are on the unit
- Work alongside 24/7 in-house intensivists and NP support, with respiratory therapy coverage across all areas though not dedicated solely to ICU
- House supervisor coverage is available 24/7 with limited exceptions
- Unit orientation includes 8 hours of general hospital orientation plus two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor or buddy, with additional orientation for specialized skills as needed
- Professional scrubs of any color are required, excluding camo, with a transition to navy scrubs beginning in October
- Schedules are created 4 weeks in advance with some self-scheduling input, though final schedules are balanced by management and block scheduling is typically not allowed
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
