Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring independent sterile vaginal exam competency and Advanced AWHONN certification.

Details

• Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a 320-bed acute care hospital
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:30
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Uses Epic for charting
• Required to work every other weekend, with likelihood of exceeding this to meet unit needs
• Floating required to Mother Baby unit
• No on-call responsibilities
• Facility may cancel shifts up to once per two-week pay period

Requirements

• active or CA RN license required
• Current certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, BLS, and NRP
• AWHONN Advanced certification is a hard requirement with no exceptions
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required, with candidates under 2 years considered based on experience; 1.5 years is an absolute minimum
• Must be able to independently perform sterile vaginal exams and obstetric triage without supervision
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skilled in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, vaginal and high-risk delivery assistance, C-section circulation and scrubbing, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock response
• Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement/calibration, and spiral electrode placement
• Experience administering medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, Terbutaline, and antihypertensives
• Experience with postpartum and newborn care including newborn assessment, thermoregulation, and lactation support
• Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty required

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum nursing care
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and neonatal care in the delivery room
• Perform antepartum procedures including sterile speculum exams and obstetric triage
• Support pain management including epidural and general anesthesia care
• RN scrubs are Royal Blue; L&D/OR scrubs are provided
• Free parking available onsite
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the facility to qualify for the local rate
• Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the state
• RTO must be submitted at the time of application; minimal RTO requests are preferred to avoid delays
• Must be able to commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must not currently reside within 50 miles of the facility
