Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring NE or compact RN licensure and telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) of an acute care hospital
  • 28-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Patient population primarily consists of adults admitted through the ER with mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke diagnoses
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, octreotide, and insulin, as well as manage other IV infusions such as Cardizem and nitro
  • Charge nurse present on every shift and may occasionally take a patient assignment, more frequently at night
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:14 ratio
  • No unit secretary on the unit; stocking support is provided by non-clinical staff
  • Specialty equipment includes code carts, LUCAS devices, Hoyer lifts, and Sit-to-Stand lifts
  • Tele/monitor techs are present, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700), with a 6-week scheduling cycle managed by unit schedulers
  • Requires 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
  • Floating required to Med/Surg and other appropriate hospital areas, including ICU/ED depending on skill set
  • High-flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Acute care hospital experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry monitoring independently
  • Experience titrating medication drips required
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Must pass a pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to adult PCU patients, including cardiac and stroke cases, in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Candidates must be positive, adaptable team players able to work through unit challenges
  • Unit-specific orientation includes one week of classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Upfront RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract is required; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for shorter assignments
