Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 2+ years of strong Neuro Critical Care experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit of a comprehensive stroke center
- Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
- Patient ratios of 2:1, with flexibility up to 3:1 during high census periods
- Average daily census of 11-12 patients
- Utilizes specialized equipment including EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
- Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR systems
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15
- 36-hour weekly schedules can be offered
- Every other weekend work required
- Floating required within or near the facility
- No call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required (general ICU or floating experience does not qualify)
- Strong Neuro Critical Care background required, not general ICU experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skills required: vents, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD care, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, care of ventilated patients, isolation precautions/PPE, and lumbar drain experience
- Arterial line management experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to a complex neurological patient population within a comprehensive stroke center
- Unit orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or 2 nights
- Navy blue and white scrubs required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a lower pay rate
- RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are allowed as long as they are on different units and disclosed at submission
- Contract length can extend up to 13 weeks through the end of February
- Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose prior employment details for facility approval
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
