Description
American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical/Oncology RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of experience and BLS/ONCC-ONS certification.
Details
- Work in a 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital
- Adult patient population includes medical and surgical oncology patients, palliative care cases, urology and telemetry patients
- Patient ratios of 4-5:1 during days and 5-6:1 during nights
- Night shift schedule (7p-7a) with 3x12 or 4x12 options, working weekdays and every other weekend
- 36 or 48 hour contract options available with 36 hours guaranteed
- Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
- Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted for consideration
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and ONCC/ONS (Chemotherapy)
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills required: telemetry, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tube management
- Experience with oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
- Minimum 2 Manager or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and oncology nursing care including chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- Manage symptom care for altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
- Facility will consider strong candidates without prior oncology experience
- Blocked schedule requests can be accommodated
- Holiday RTO requests limited to no more than 1 of 3 major holidays
- Scrub color requirement: Royal Blue/White for RNs
- Free parking provided for travelers
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those between 75-99 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medical exemption documented; not required outside this window
- COVID vaccine not required
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
- Current employees of Vandalia Health System (including CAMC, Mon Health, Davis Medical Center, and other affiliated facilities) are not eligible for travel contracts within the health system
- Travel experience not required, making this position suitable for first-time travelers
