Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Ortho night shift position requiring a CA RN license and 2-3 years of specialty and travel nursing experience.
Details
- Work in the MedSurg/Ortho unit of a Level 2 trauma acute care hospital
- 17-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 5
- Common diagnoses include hip, knee, shoulder, and spine cases with no drips
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts scheduled from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required, with 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required as part of the permanent staff rotation
- Nurses are first to float, including to telemetry at a 1 to 4 ratio and between other Med/Surg floors
- Portable telemetry box available when needed with monitor tech support
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage, RT, and pharmacy support available
- One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- BLS certification required
- 2-3 years of Med/Surg-Ortho specialty experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry and pass a dysrhythmia exam
- Navy scrub color required
Additional Information
- Care for orthopedic and general Med/Surg patients including hip, knee, shoulder, and spine cases
- Charge nurse role is a clinical supervisor position without patient assignments, providing break relief
- One nurse aide supports the unit for 8 hours per day
- No IV team available on the unit
- Holiday RTO may be requested but cannot be guaranteed
- Strong teamwork skills are required for this role

Cons
The cafeteria is a hit and miss. Some days they have great sea food with saffron rice! Some days microwaved food :D. But there is alwaaaaays, pizza available ;)
