Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience and NIHSS certification.
Details
- Work in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) with a mix of ICU and PCU patients
- Day shift schedule (3x12 hours), 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Assignment length of up to 26 weeks
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 based on acuity
- Vent patients cared for in a 2:1 ratio; cooling, CRRT, or high acuity patients in a 1:1 ratio
- PCU and general med/transfer patients may be grouped 4:1 or 3-4:1 based on acuity
- Required to work every other weekend
- Float requirement to other ICU and Med-Surg units as census flexes, in rotation with staff RNs
- Typical Med-Surg ratios during float assignments are approximately 1:5-7 patients per RN
- Common diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
- Unit performs procedures such as CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
- Uses specialized equipment including cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and CRRT machines
- Unit averages 3 ventilated patients per day
- Epic charting system experience preferred
Requirements
- Active Michigan RN license required (pending license status may be considered with concrete ETA and proof of application)
- Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
- NIHSS must be renewed annually
- Minimum of 1 year recent ICU experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, and starting IVs
- Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Experience managing dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with chronic/acute renal failure and CVVHD/CRRT
- Experience with CVA/acute stroke management
- Experience with IV insulin protocols
- Proof of flu vaccination required with submission, or exemption request within 48 hours of signing
- Supervisor-level references required
Additional Information
- Facility is designated as a Primary Stroke Destination by the Joint Commission
- Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
- Holiday coverage is required with no guaranteed holiday time off
- No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
- All RTO requests must be submitted prior to offer; requests after offer require discussion with the on-site manager
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
- Previous Bronson travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
- Annual self-reported training modules must be completed during orientation and annually thereafter
