Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU/SICU night shift position requiring 4 years of ICU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Critical Care: 6 Tower SICU unit of a Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital with Magnet designation
  • 20-bed unit with a 70/30 split between ICU and step-down/general medical patients
  • Care for surgical/trauma patients including complex abdominal surgeries (Whipple, flap surgeries), post-open heart patients, and neuro patients (ICP, EVD, brain bleeds)
  • ICU patient ratio of 1:1-2 based on acuity; step-down ratio of 1:3-4 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to Tele/MS units (1:4-5 ratio) and MICU, with travelers prioritized for floating
  • EPIC EMR system required
  • Uses Alaris IV Pump, Pyxis, Phillips Monitors, Bellmont mass transfusion, and Kreg verticalization beds

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Minimum 4 years of ICU experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Skills required: trach, ventilator, BiPAP, chest tubes, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, cardiovascular complications management, vasopressor and sedation/analgesia titration, CRRT (Prismaflex), insulin drips, TR band and sheath removal, wound vac, balloon pump, and Impella experience
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration
  • Candidate date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Perform direct patient care including all blood draws and arterial sticks for ABGs (with RT assistance available)
  • Unit support includes 1 CNA per unit, charge nurse who sometimes takes patient assignments, 24/7 Resource Nurse/House Supervisor, RT, Hospitalist, Resident physician, Rescue/code team, and access to OT, PT, and ST
  • IV/VAT team available for difficult IV sticks and PICC lines during day shifts only (not available on nights)
  • Orientation consists of 2 shifts, including one shift in the MICU
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 summer and 1 winter holiday (nights cover the eve going into the holiday)
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • No radius rules; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • First-time travelers considered if they have relevant ICU experience
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
  • Time off requests must be submitted to the Nurse Manager for approval
