Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week contract requiring an active IL RN license and a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) within a Level 1 Trauma Center, Level III Perinatal Center, teaching hospital with Magnet designation
• 17-bed unit with a 70/30 ICU-to-stepdown ratio
• Patient population includes multi-system organ failure, DKA, sepsis, COPD, CHF, COVID, pneumonia, AKI, CKD, cardiac ICU (MI, post-CABG, post-cath, ablations, fem-pop bypass, AAA), ventilated/sedated patients, strokes, TPA administration, post cardiac arrest, targeted temperature management, and impella/balloon pump cases
• Occasional ECMO patients managed by permanent staff prior to transfer
• ICU patient ratio of 1:1-2 based on acuity; stepdown ratio of 1:3-4 based on acuity
• 12-hour day shift schedule (0700-1930), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Floating required to SICU and Tele/MS units (1:4-5 ratio), with travelers floated first
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Two shifts of orientation provided, one of which is in the SICU
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Phillips monitors, Bellmont mass transfusion system, and Kreg verticalization beds

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Most recent clinical experience must be within the last year
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• CCRN certification preferred
• Skills required include trach and ventilator management, BiPAP, chest tubes, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, cardiovascular complication management, vasopressor and sedation/analgesia titration, CRRT (Prismaflex), insulin drip management, TR band and sheath removal, wound vac management, and balloon pump/impella experience
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Perform ABG draws via art stick as RNs handle all blood draws on the unit, with respiratory therapy assisting as needed
• Unit supported by 1 CNA per unit, a charge nurse who occasionally takes patient assignments, and 24/7 coverage from a resource nurse/house supervisor, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, resident physician, rescue team, and nursing supervisor
• IV/VAT team available for difficult IV sticks and PICC lines during day coverage only, not available for night shifts
• Attending physician reachable via virtual provider during off hours
• OT, PT, and ST services available
• Bedside monitoring with nurses' station for ICU; centralized telemetry monitoring for medical-surgical/telemetry units
• Overtime only required in dire need
• Holiday coverage required for 1 summer and 1 winter holiday, with night shift coverage applying to the eve going into the holiday
• RN scrub color is navy
• First-time travelers with a strong ICU background are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for this travel position
• Manager will conduct a second-round clinical interview
