Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a MS/Tele/PCU Float Pool position requiring AZ or compact licensure and at least 1 year of PCU experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, floating between MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
- PCU unit has 14 double-occupancy rooms with an average census of 20; MedSurg Tele unit has 95 beds divided into 4 pod areas
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU and 1:5-6 in MedSurg Tele
- Patient population includes geriatric and ortho patients, as well as post-procedural cardiac cath and post-MI patients, and CABG post-op day 3-4 patients
- RNs are responsible for titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
- RT equipment used includes CPAP and BiPAP in MedSurg, and BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow in PCU
- Telemetry monitoring is used in the stepdown unit with monitor techs supporting PCU and MedSurg Tele; nurses must be able to interpret telemetry strips
- Nurse aides are utilized across all units
- Charting is done in Cerner
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p), with every other weekend required
- Schedule is published 6 weeks in advance in 4-week blocks; flexibility is required
- Holiday coverage is required as part of the standard staff rotation
- No call or standby requirements
- Shift assignments are communicated via text message 2 hours prior to shift start
- Distance between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- BSN not required
- Must be comfortable managing common titratable and set-rate drips
- Must be able to interpret telemetry strips
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing a contract
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Float across MedSurg Tele and PCU units on both campuses as needed, with priority given to floating first
- Charge nurses are assigned to each unit and do not take patient assignments
- Orientation includes an 8-hour general hospital orientation day, plus a 12-hour shift at West MedTele and a 12-hour shift at PCU at West
- Dress code is solid color professional scrubs, transitioning to navy scrubs to align with system guidelines
- Cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any facility associated with the health system within the past year
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
