Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother Baby/Labor & Delivery position requiring 2 years of LDRP experience and a WA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Birthing Center/Mother Baby - L&D unit of an acute care hospital
- 13-bed L&D unit with 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
- Unit averages 170-190 births per month, with over 2,100 deliveries in 2025
- Follows AWHONN nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for postpartum couplets
- Patient population includes 32 weeks gestation and above, high-risk pregnancies, preeclampsia, diabetic patients, and patients with psych/social or substance use concerns
- Uses EPIC EMR and Centricity-Perinatal for EFM charting
- 12-hour night shifts with every-other weekend requirement (Fri/Sat)
- Rotates holiday coverage with permanent staff
- Standby requirement with a 45-minute response time when placed on call
- No floating outside the Mother Baby/Postpartum unit; no floating to NICU
- Must be able to function in both Labor and Postpartum, including low-risk deliveries and newborn transition care
- 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, NNP coverage in the nursery, and OB anesthesia provider on the unit
- One surgical tech assigned 24/7 and a patient care assistant on each shift
- RT equipment available including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP, typically with staff assigned to family birth
- Tele/monitor tech support available for PACU post-C-section patients
- Block scheduling available upon request in contract
- Scrubs and a locker are provided
Requirements
- Active WA state or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience required
- Must be comfortable attending and circulating independently in C-sections
- Must be comfortable assisting with newborn delivery and transition care
- Must be able to titrate medication drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration

- Provide direct nursing care across Labor, Delivery, Postpartum, and Mother Baby patients
- Attend low-risk deliveries and assist with newborn transition as part of routine duties
- Unit-based orientation includes an 8-hour compliance day, an 8-hour EPIC class, and 2-3 shifts of 12-hour unit-specific orientation
- Unit manager is supportive and provides regular feedback, expecting travelers to remain adaptable to unit workflows and procedures
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
