Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of acute care experience, including at least 1 year of PCU experience.

Details

• Work on a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
• Care for adult patients with solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses; pediatric patients are rare and typically cared for by permanent staff
• High acuity PCU population with a smaller amount of med surg patients
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic EMR experience required
• 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) shifts on a rotating schedule, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience
• Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Required skills: interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care and management, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills: management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN or higher (no coworker references accepted)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is encouraged; previous travel experience is preferred but first-time travelers may be considered
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
