Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Acute Leukemia and Hematology position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and no chemo certification needed.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting within an acute leukemia and hematology unit
- Cares primarily for adult and geriatric patients newly diagnosed with acute leukemia
- Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
- 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) rotating shift schedule based on department needs
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
- Uses Epic for computerized charting
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification preferred
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patients
- Epic charting experience required
- Skilled in telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
- Experience with central line and PICC line care/management
- Experience with peripheral line care/management and blood product administration
- Experience accessing/managing ports and central line blood draws preferred
- Feeding tube care and management experience
- Use of Rapid Response Teams experience
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
- Participate in infection prevention and patient falls prevention initiatives
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- RTO required at time of submission and must be built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
