Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an ICU Float Pool position requiring at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency, with a compact or AL RN license.
Details
- Level II Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
- Staff Float Pool position rotating among General Cardiac, CVICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, and Surgical ICU units
- General Cardiac unit (10 beds) cares for STEMI, post cardiac cath, respiratory failure/ventilated, post cardiac arrest, post stroke, renal failure, hypertensive emergency, and sepsis patients
- CVICU (12 beds) cares for post-op CABG, valve, thoracotomy, V-A and V-V ECMO, post cardiac arrest, and post-op vascular surgery patients
- MICU (14 beds) cares for acute respiratory failure, acute renal/liver failure, DKA, sepsis/septic shock, and some post-surgical patients
- Neuro ICU (14 beds) is a fast-paced unit with quick patient turnover caring for CVA, SAH, SDH, IPH, and seizure patients
- Surgical ICU (14 beds) cares for post-surgical, trauma, vascular, multisystem trauma, and neuro trauma patients
- Home unit assigned on first day of orientation
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- CNA support at a 1:10 ratio, charge nurse on every shift, plus phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist support available
- RNs are required to read and measure telemetry strips for ICU monitoring
- EMR used is Cerner
- IV pumps are Plum 360, medication dispensing via Omnicell, and monitors are Spacelabs
- Floating required to like units or patient locations, including ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS (task or limited to 3 patients), and ICU-to-ER/holds
- 12-hour night shifts on a 36/48 schedule, from 7p-7a
- Every other weekend rotation required, with occasional back-to-back weekends
- No on-call requirements
- 6-week schedule cycle
Requirements
- Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required for first-time traveler consideration
- Skills may include vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titrations, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (PrismaFlex), chest tube management, Swan Ganz catheters, and FloTrac monitoring depending on unit assignment
- Additional unit-specific skills may include Tandem Life/Tandem Lung, trach care, EVD and ICP monitoring, wound care, and central line management
- Reference from charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing across multiple ICU specialty units as part of a float pool
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Rehire orientation length depends on last date of employment at the facility
- Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- Scrub color is unrestricted
- Staff parking available in an on-campus parking deck
- Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for consideration
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic experience
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being eligible to return as a traveler
