Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in an Acute Neurosurgery and ENT unit requiring NC or compact RN licensure and NIHSS certification.

Details

• 18-bed post-op unit specializing in Acute Neurosurgery and ENT patients
• Neurosurgical cases include brain and spinal surgeries, trauma, cancer, stroke, and intracranial bleeds
• ENT cases include head and neck malignancies, cancer, infection, and surgeries involving the head, mouth, tongue, jaw, thyroid, and oropharynx
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Day shift schedule from 7:00am to 7:00pm
• 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, 36 hours per week
• 48-hour work weeks are approved
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Required to function as charge nurse as needed, with training provided

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum of one year of nursing experience required
• Nursing Diploma, ADN, or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing required
• BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing preferred
• Ability to perform bedside point of care testing

Additional Information

• Provide competent clinical nursing care to post-op neurosurgery and ENT patients using the nursing process
• Coordinate and deliver patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Assess patient and family readiness and ability to learn, providing relevant education
• Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in evaluation and continuity of care
• Prioritize and organize care for patients with complex physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs
• Consult with appropriate resources for complex care issues and discharge planning
• Participate in unit performance improvement activities and promote cost-effective, safe care
• Collaborate with patients and families to develop and update individualized care plans
• Address cultural and ethnic considerations in care planning
