Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of acute experience and telemetry/observation skills at a Level I trauma center.
Details
- Mixed unit combining PCU, Med Surg Tele, and Med Surg patients
- Observation unit setting with a length of stay goal of 18-24 hours
- Patient ratio of 1:4 on all shifts
- Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including chest pain, atrial fibrillation, TIA, GI bleed, CHF, COPD, seizure, and post-outpatient surgery complications
- Approximately two-thirds of patients are managed by EDOBS providers located in the department
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within service line and across Toledo, Flower, Bay Park, and Wildwood facilities as needed
- Float units may include Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Trauma, Oncology, General Surg, and Uro/Vascular
- EPIC charting system required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
- Charge nurse experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Must be familiar with intermediate medication drips (heparin, nitro, cardizem, insulin, etc)
- EPIC charting experience required
- Level I trauma center experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Observation medicine experience preferred
- First-time travelers accepted, with preference given to those with prior Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry and observation-level nursing care within a fast-paced mixed PCU/Med Surg Tele/Med Surg unit
- Manage cardiac drips (without titration) and interpret/manage dysrhythmias
- Perform cardiac monitoring and emergency response
- Utilize isolation precautions and PPE as needed
- Manage non-invasive airway support and nasal cannula use
- Facility is a Level I trauma center and the largest acute care hospital in the Toledo metropolitan area
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Requests for time off greater than 7 days require management approval
- Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
- Schedules may change with two-week notice from the facility to balance staffing needs
- Previous employees must have a 1-year break in service to be eligible for rehire
