Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift assignment at a Level 1 trauma children's hospital, requiring 2 years of Level 4 NICU experience and a CA RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Neonatal ICU (NICU) at a Magnet-recognized, Level 1 trauma children's hospital with 60 staffed beds
  • Care for critically ill neonates including surgical, cardiac, and high-risk delivery patients
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:00) with variable day/night or straight nights options
  • Must be available to work weekends with full flexibility for scheduling as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR for charting
  • No on-call responsibilities required
  • Required to float within scope to PICU, CTICU, and Med Surg as needed
  • May be required to float to NICU satellite campuses including Rancho Springs, Palomar, Scripps Encinitas, Scripps La Jolla, and Scripps Mercy
  • Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate when floating to locations other than home base facility

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required in hand, or an ETA for licensure posting date
  • Current BLS certification required; Advanced NRP required; PALS preferred
  • 2 years of recent Level 4 NICU experience required
  • Will consider strong Level 3 NICU RN experience with surgical and cardiac care in a unit that performs newborn surgeries
  • Experience required with oscillator, conventional ventilator, CPAP, and nasal cannula specialty gases
  • Experience required with PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines, trachs, ostomies, and G-tubes
  • Comfortable managing line changes with multiple drips and providing pre- and post-operative care
  • Experience with high-risk deliveries, IV therapy, central line/implanted line care, and starting/maintaining IVs preferred
  • Experience with gastrointestinal care including gastroschisis/omphalocele and post-abdominal surgery care preferred
  • Experience administering emergency medications including IV vasopressors preferred
  • Ventilator management experience (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP) preferred
  • Must have own transportation for floating to satellite locations

  • Any color scrubs accepted
  • Free traveler parking available
  • Required to work 2 of the following 3 holidays (including Eves): Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • Maximum RTO of 6 days must be confirmed upfront
  • Strong first-time travelers with Level 4 NICU experience will be considered
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Prior permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before being eligible to travel
  • Travelers who complete a full year at this facility or its sister facility must wait 90 days before returning as a traveler
  • Up to 10 hours of non-billable pre-start training modules may be required
