Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a night shift contract requiring an active MD or Compact RN license, 2+ years of ICU experience, and NIHSS certification.

Details

• Work in the ICU, including surgical ICU, of a hospital setting
• Care for patients with diagnoses including stroke, renal failure requiring CRRT, MI with IABP, respiratory failure, pneumonia, post cardiac arrest, and DKA
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 1900-0730
• Every 3rd weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within specialty and acuity level, with travelers prioritized to float
• Uses Epic for charting
• Utilizes specialized equipment including ceiling lifts, central line carts, universal critical airway cart, chest tube cart, temp pacer cart, bronch cart, chemo cart, CRRT cart, and Malignant Hyperthermia cart

Requirements

• Active MD or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA only for BLS/ACLS)
• Minimum 2+ years of ICU experience required
• Skilled in care of ventilated patients and interpretation of ABGs
• Experience with central line and PICC line care/management
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and administration of emergency medications
• Proficient in blood product administration and IV therapy
• Experience with CVVHD/CRRT
• Knowledge of hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
• Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a complex ICU patient population including stroke, cardiac, renal, and respiratory failure cases
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless otherwise specified
• Maximum of 7 days RTO can be requested, with an additional week added to the back end of new contracts if more than 4 consecutive days are requested
• One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted, depending on unit availability
• Returning travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months since their last assignment
• Former staff members must wait 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Typically one contract and one extension allowed, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility or unit
