Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring an active IL RN license and at least 2 years of CVICU experience.
Details
- Work in a 20-bed Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit within a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital
- All beds are private and monitored with nurse call systems
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valve, CABG/valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids), post cardiovascular procedures, STEMI, unstable angina, N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVRs, and ventilated patients
- Utilizes specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Manages various lines including PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- Utilizes ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide therapy
- Philips monitoring system used with monitor techs available, though RNs must read and interpret their own strips
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- Required to work every other weekend (Friday and Saturday for night shift)
- Required to work every other holiday
- Float to every level of care required, taking a full patient team assignment
- Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs available most times, with providers on call
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7
- PCTs available with ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- CCRN certification a plus
- Minimum 2 years of solid CVICU experience required
- Continued ICU assignment experience preferred
- Must be able to interpret cardiac strips
- Must be proficient in titrating multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Strong assessment skills and critical thinking required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Must be able to work independently with minimal training on unit-specific equipment and patient population
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular ICU patients including those with temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and multiple concurrent interventions
- Care for EP patients frequently as part of unit caseload
- Follow protocols and physician orders while exercising strong clinical judgment
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including APNs, PAs, respiratory therapists, and PCTs
- No particular scrub color required, but appropriate professional appearance is expected; scrubs are not provided
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
- Local candidates are accepted with local rates available for those within 50 miles of the facility
