Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring an active IL RN license and at least 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Work in a 65-bed Level 1 trauma Emergency Department with 2 dedicated trauma bays, all private rooms
- Care for a wide range of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill, cardiac arrest, stroke, and trauma cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5, variable based on acuity and departmental needs
- Travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod, but will not serve as the primary trauma bay nurse
- Titrate a variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensives
- Department supported by a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times, 2 charge nurses per shift, and a 24/7 house supervisor
- ED techs support the unit at a 1:9 ratio
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment
- Monitor techs are present, but RNs must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms using Phillips monitors
- Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-ray or CT imaging
- Nurses and techs draw labs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders at times
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts on a fixed schedule (not rotating with days)
- Every other weekend required, with weekend definitions varying by shift
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or based on departmental needs, negotiable within contract
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, with no expectation to take a patient assignment outside the ED
- 48 guaranteed hours per week
- 26-week assignment length
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS
- Prior travel assignment experience preferred
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
- Must be proficient in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
- Must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms independently
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Additional Information
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius rule restricting eligibility for the position
- COVID vaccination is not required
- Tasteful scrubs required with solid colored shirts underneath, no specific color mandated
- 12 hours of non-billable orientation required, during which guaranteed hours do not apply
- Travelers do not self-schedule; scheduling is managed by the scheduling manager, though time-off requests can be included in the contract for review
- Block scheduling is available when possible, often resulting in patterns such as 2 on/4 off or 6 consecutive shifts
- Cancellation policy allows up to 12 hours per 13 weeks with no penalty
